OUR FOUNDERS

Dayo (pronounced die-oh) and Tinu Idowu, native Nigerians, migrated to Canada in 1986 and 1987, respectively.  Dayo received a scholarship to study at Acadia University in Nova Scotia and graduated in 1990 with a Bachelors of Arts degree in Sociology.  His call to Christian and pastoral ministry was fulfilled when he graduated from McMaster Divinity College in Hamilton with a Masters of Theological Studies in 2002. The same year, Dayo also graduated with Honors with a Post Graduate Certificate in Psychosocial Rehabilitation Services from Humber College, Toronto.

Dayo currently owns and operates Dorvict Resource & Consulting Centre Inc. which renders support services to people with disabilities and provides staffing services to hospitals, nursing homes, vocational rehabilitation centres and private homes.  The Idowus currently reside in Barrie, Ontario but are in daily contact with the Orphanage in Ibadan, Nigeria and make frequent annual trips in order to ensure the welfare and development of the children and employees who reside and work at the Home.

THEIR PASSION, OUR HISTORY-

Job 29:12 “For I assisted the poor in their need and the orphans who required help”

In 2002 Dayo and Tinu  visited their birth country Nigeria and were deeply distressed and greatly moved with compassion for the number of children they encountered that were living on the street, begging for food and money, without any possibility of engaging in basic human rights that belong to every child, regardless of their nativity.

Many children were also found to be living in dysfunctional homes, with no hope of escape, and great numbers were uneducated and had no prospect of ever going to school, leaving them in a vulnerable and dangerous mode of survival.

Acting with compassion, prayer and determination they set out to provide a safe place where children could be rescued and given HOPE for the future, not only for themselves, but for those who would follow in their footsteps; Children of Promise.  Hence in 2003, a property was purchased in Ibadan Nigeria to create a HOME OF HOPE for these vulnerable and destitute children and on April 2, 2005, the first child was rescued and made a member of our Chiprom family.

Psalm 10:18 “You will bring justice to the orphans and the oppressed, so mere people can no longer terrify them”

OUR OFFICIAL NAME WAS CHANGED FROM CHILDREN OF PROMISE MINISTRIES INC. TO CHIPROMS INC. EFFECTIVE AS OF FEBRUARY 28, 2020.

ORIGIN CHIPROMS INC. and Children of Promise Ministries (CHIPROM) USA.

The intention of Children of Promise Ministries (CHIPROM) Nigeria was to be entirely supported by Nigerian individuals, government and religious organizations.  It became obvious very quickly that due to social stigma attached to these children, a declining economy, political unrest and general lack of concern, it was necessary to reach out to other benevolent, humanitarian countries in order to be able to properly care for these precious children.  As a result Children of Promise Ministries Inc. Canada was formed and now functions under our new name CHIPROMS INC.

  • Incorporated July 4, 2005 as Children of Promise Ministries Inc.
  • Registered as a Canadian Federal Charitable Non-Profit Corporation on July 18, 2006
